The Point, Please?

My recomendation: borrow this book and try before you buy! I was excited to get it. The idea is splendid, by adding vegi purees to your kids normal foods, you can trick them into eating more healthy. I confess that I have only tried a handful of these recipes but my kids don't like them. And I spent hours chopping, cooking and pureeing the stupid vegitables before making anything. And after all that, you add like 1/4 or 1/2 a cup of the stuff for about 8 servings. So, what is that, like 1 tsp per person? Are you kidding? I just did all that work for a tsp of pureed vegis? (to be fair, a rare few of the recipes call for 3 tsp per serving) The kids are saying, "What's wrong with this?" with the accompanying sneer and barely repressed gag reflex. So, no thank you, Jessica. I'll just stick to my old method, hold thier noses while I force the vegis in. Sorry, kids! Eventually they will realize that vegi's are good if you put enough butter and salt on them. I know this. I have faith that they will come to the same conclusion. Now what the heck am I going to do with all those bags of chickpea puree in my freezer?

I know what you mean! I have tried a couple of the recipes. The spinach brownies that everyone raved about on Oprah kind of made me gag. Parker took one bite and it was over. I have tons of bags of pureed veggies in my freezer too. Definitely not worth all the effort. It's just not realistic.

Make Hummus :) At least you and your husband might enjoy it! One thing that we all enjoy is spinach in fruit shakes-- for example:
handful of fresh spinach
8 oz pineapple juice
1 ripe banana
1 tsp vanilla
ice
dash lime juice
blend it all together. Really tasty! This was the original recipe, but we've gone on to add spinach to just about every shake- you can't really tell it's even there, and just think about all that nutrition! (Just don't let your kids watch you make it)

You crack me up! I love that your children are so comical and you can write so well! I agree, butter and salt make the veggie. Thanks for the tip too - I will just keep forcing the greens instead of tire myself out with other efforts!

You are my kind of girl! I love when you someone just says it like it is! Thanks for the information, I watched her on Oprah and was actually considering the concept. Good to know someone who has tried it.

So, You left a comment on my Piper's Hairdo blog, so of course I started lurking/stalking....

Um, I TOTALLY agree with you this book. I finally broke down and bought it, tried some of the recipes.

The kidlets like the Twice baked potatoes and that is it!! DH didn't like ANY of them and he eats anything!

Now, I have all this pureed Vegetable stuff in my freezer.
